As a child, hapiness was seeing my father appear at our front door at the end of the workday. It marks the end of my wait for the evening. It also signals the monotony of dinnertime feeding was over. My reward for finishing dinner was funny noises my dad would make on being home.

It was always a joy to greet father. His funny noise would start way before he reached the front door. I would be perk up when I hear these familiar sounds and patter towards the door. There he would be, beaming from ear to ear. What joy and relief to have him home again!

Happiness was also found in weekend outings with my dad. I would be secure in his arms, as he carried me through parks, zoo, playgrounds, markets, shopping malls and other fun places, covering seemingly long distances with his long legs effortlessly. He could leap across ditches, avoid potholes and other obstacles and I would always be safe. A special treat was to ride on father's back for a few rounds. Sometimes, he would bring me to the local coffee shop for weekly excursion. I must have been four or five then.

At the coffee shop, father would pour the coffee from the cup into round saucers. I would be allow to scoop coco powders from a teaspoon into my mouth. There was no need for any straw! What a ruckus mother would have raised if she had seen me then!

On weekends, I would sit expectantly waiting for dad to read me the Sunday comics and stories that came with the morning paper. Life was idyllic!

School took centre stage when father registered me for kindergarten when I turned six. Happiness consists of rushing for the swings during recess and wrestling for a place for the best seats in concert etc. Sometimes I was quite upset that dad was not with me as he got to work. But soon when I mixed around my classmates and friends, I became more independent and enjoyed school lifes.

I should count myself fortunate that I have supportive parents, who shape the happy events in my childhood. It leaves an indelible impression on me, a resouvoir of strength which I could draw on in later years.

Long live my dearest parents. I love you, dad. I love you, mum!!
