I read a book entitled "The Way of Youth", written by Daisaku Ikeda. 2 of the chapters had gave me the answer that I had long searching for.

1) Purpose of Study:
"… Only by meeting life’s challenges can you fulfill yr potential & experience true happiness. The purpose of our lives is to fulfill a mission that is ours & ours alone & to do our very best to help those who are suffering. To do so, you will need strength & character. That is why I stress constantly how much there is to gain by working hard & challenging yourself now.

The purpose of study is not which university you attend but to master something that contributes to your self-enrichment. There is a Buddhist saying,
"Not to learn is to debase you." What makes us a human is our capacity to learn.

We are now living in the information age. If you do not continue to study throughout yr life, you will soon be left behind. To develop a lifelong study ethic is an important requisite for future leaders.

The resolve to accomplish r goals is what counts. If you earnestly put yr mind to something, yr brain, yr body, yr environment everything will start working towards achieving that goal."

2) Importance of Grades
“Yr studies are, of course, important. But yr present grades do not doom you to a less-than bright future. If you think this way, you will keep yrself from nuturing yr abilities. If you give up trying to mine the gem in yr life, yr personal development will cease. This is something to avoid at all costs.

Some people studied in universities but do not work hard there. There are some who become overbearing & arrogant. The world needs leaders – not elitist. Others stop striving for personal growth after entering a big company or becoming bureaucrats, doctors or lawyers. Some people who graduate from top universities even resort to crime. Many people, achieving their personal career goals, forget to work for others.

Actually, graduating & getting a job is just the beginning, not the final destination. But many think only about what they want to become, not what they can contribute to society. Greatness as a human being is not determined at educational background or social position.

Yr future depends on the efforts you make & whether you are walking the correct path. It is not important how you compare to others but how you compare to whom you were yesterday. The question is how we can live happily, in a way true to ourselves, where we can always look forward & advance.

Being young means wrestling with all kinds of problems. It means resolving them, in spite of all difficulties, pushing aside the dark clouds of despair & advancing towards the sun, towards hope. Such strength & resilience are the hallmarks of youth.

While struggling with various problems, it is vital that you advance – even if it's only 1 or 2 inches. If you do so, later, when you look back you will see that you have actually made yr way through the jungle in no time. "
